GMAT:
“I started out with a 13th percentile quantitative score on practice tests. After working with John I was able to score in the 73rd percentile quant on my first official GMAT, and ended up with an overall score of 710.”
“I met with John once or twice a week over the course of several months during my GMAT preparation. I started out with a 13th percentile quantitative score on practice tests. After working with him I was able score in the 73rd percentile quant on my first official GMAT, and ended up with an overall score of 710. I had no formal quantitative training or experience prior to studying; the last math class I took was as a sophomore in high school (a decade ago). Each time I met with John, he was able to go beyond simply correcting my mistakes. He clearly explained the overarching reasoning, strategy and logic behind a certain problem. This is something the video explanations in GMAT curriculum do not do as thoroughly as John. If you’re looking for someone to discuss GMAT concepts with in a clear and intelligent way, I highly recommend him.
I also studied using curriculum like Target Test Prep, but John helped me tremendously by working through the problems I struggled with step by step and identifying any weak spots in my quant skills. He understands the GMAT and is able to identify the kinds of questions that likely would or would not appear on the exam.
Finally, John served as a strong source of moral support throughout a challenging three months of study atop a full time job. When I wanted to try a new curriculum or ask him about tricky questions via email, he would always offer thoughtful feedback in response. His responses were especially helpful when I scored low on practice exams; John’s feedback always helped me put things in perspective and helped me get back up and try again. He was very flexible and willing to work with my schedule and make time when needed, often on short notice. In short, I couldn’t have done it without him!”

“I am thankful to have achieved a 710 with his help–not to mention a Quant score of 50.”
“John was an amazing mentor, friend, and GMAT Tutor. He would spend countless hours reviewing my practice exams, and providing me with in-depth, detailed feedback regarding my performance and target areas for improvement. I am thankful to have achieved a 710 with his help–not to mention a Quant score of 50. I can confidently say, there is no better tutor in the Bay Area than him, especially given the rate he charges and what I got out of the session with him. He cut to the chase, letting me know the best resources for verbal and quant, and encouraging me every step of the way, regardless of the outcome. 5/5 no brainer.”

“John ended up being the perfect complement to my own studies, meeting once a week for two hours to go over the more advanced questions I was struggling with.”
“I did a 9-week Manhattan Prep course, which was terrific for laying the groundwork of my GMAT studies; however, at the end of the course, I was still not scoring in my desired score range on the practice tests. I was at around 630-640 on practice tests before I enacted John as a tutor, and ended up scoring a 710 on test day.
John was convenient and flexible, always accommodating in scheduling sessions. John ended up being the perfect complement to my own studies, meeting once a week for two hours to go over the more advanced questions I was struggling with. After studying hard on my own, and meeting with John once a week for a few weeks, I was able to complete my goal and enter the coveted 700-range on the GMAT.
I would definitely recommend John as both a Quant and Verbal tutor, although we focused more on my weaknesses, which were Quant based. Thanks John!”

GRE:
“John demonstrated enthusiasm and care for my success, checking-in to track progress between sessions and focusing our sessions to maximize our time together.”
“John was an exceptional tutor, boosting my confidence and improving my skills substantially in the limited time we had together. He was flexible with scheduling, on time and organized for our meetings, and a bargain for the price! I worked with John to improve my GRE Quantitative score, and he had specific recommendations for study guides, problem sets, and accessible tools to use in my own time. John demonstrated enthusiasm and care for my success, checking-in to track progress between sessions and focusing our sessions to maximize our time together. I would absolutely recommend John to anyone looking to improve their score and/or skill set in math.”

“John made the process of studying for the GRE as painless and fun as possible!”
“John helped me raise my GRE score significantly. Working with John helped me gain the skills and tools I needed to reach (just above) my goal score. We studied the content of the GRE but also strategies for approaching problems likely to be found on the GRE, which proved invaluable. John was patient and encouraging throughout our tutoring and always gave me the extra confidence I needed to help me get through tough problems. It’s nice to have someone cheering you on when you’re trying to achieve a score that might seem hard or unachievable. John made the process of studying for the GRE as painless and fun as possible!”

LSAT:
“It was so helpful to have an outside eye watch me work through logic games and see where I was losing time.”
“John worked with me on the logic games section of the LSAT, starting just two weeks before the test. He was great at tailoring sessions to my needs and helping me see places where I could improve my efficiency. It was so helpful to have an outside eye watch me work through logic games and see where I was losing time. John is also such a personable and approachable person. He is easy to work with and extremely generous with his resources. He lent me a number of practice tests to work through before test day, and was knowledgable about which might be most applicable to the most recent LSATs. I would highly recommend him as an LSAT tutor!”

“I would highly recommend John as a LSAT tutor, as he is able to really hone in on the root of your confusion and also notice patterns in the types of questions you have.”
“I worked with John for the LSAT. He was a great tutor– extremely patient and willing to explain concepts and any questions I had until I felt I had a complete understanding. He was very generous with his time and answered questions over email. Most importantly, I appreciate the encouragement he gave and positive affirmations about my abilities and progress. I would highly recommend John as a LSAT tutor, as he is able to really hone in on the root of your confusion and also notice patterns in the types of questions you have.”

College Math and Statistics:
“He pinpointed what I needed to know, explained the content efficiently and helped me achieve an A in a very hard Math class at UCLA.”
“John was an amazing tutor! He pinpointed what I needed to know, explained the content efficiently and helped me achieve an A in a very hard Math class at UCLA.
We met twice per week since material was taught at a fast pace during summer school. Each meeting time was worth it!“

“I went from being a few points away from a D, to a few points away from an A in just 3 weeks!”
“Ok, so let’s start with what you need to know about John. John really knows his stuff! He has an incredible gift for bringing out your personal best, no matter how much you think you “don’t know”. It’s important to understand that John is not the kind of “tutor” that will do your assignments for you, or just give you all of the answers for the right price. He is a true teacher. He will help you to discover, understand and apply your own math instincts and quantitative reasoning skills. He is very trustworthy, and works very hard to get you the best possible grade. Before we even met up for our first session, John asked me to send him my course syllabus, the most recent assignment that I completed, and the next assignment due. He was so diligent in reviewing all of the material to make sure he was clear about my current level of understanding. He even did independent research on my professor to fully gauge the expectations of the course. He then sent me some very clear notes and additional resources, including a complete text book – all through email, before our first tutoring session! He was absolutely committed to tutoring me and he spent so much time on me, before our actual session, and he didn’t even include that time on his bill! John is truly someone who is passionate about what he does. When we finally met for our tutoring session, John walked through each of the questions in my assignment that was due, and helped me to think critically through the solutions. He didn’t give me the answers, and he didn’t regurgitate some page out of the textbook. He met me at my level, and guided me through the materials and resources to help me understand and apply the concepts on my own.
So – how effective is he? Before I found John, I was just 3 points away from a D in Quantitative Business Analysis – which I’m guessing is an advanced form of Statistics. Being that this course was part of my major, getting a D, was the same as failing and I would have had to retake the course. With only 3 weeks left in the course, I really needed a miracle. I had already completed two assignments before meeting John, and after he reviewed the most recent assignment I completed, he actually discovered some significant oversights in my professor’s grading! He drafted a protest for me (again, before we even met for our first session.) There were just 2 more assignments to complete, and 1 of them was worth 35% of my overall grade. I completed them on my own, after my tutoring session with John. He was so great! He reached out to me each day, to ask me how things were coming along, and he spent a great deal of time reviewing my work, offering suggestions and pointing me back to areas that needed extra attention. I got 100% on each of those assignments, which completely boosted my overall grade for the class. I went from being a few points away from a D, to a few points away from an A in just 3 weeks! Today, I am enrolled in a new Statistics course which I had originally withdrawn from a year ago because I wasn’t confident enough to complete it. However, after the work John and I did together, I feel so confident braving this course on my own now, and seeing it all the way through. I am actively participating in class discussions and actually helping other students understand concepts that I once struggled with. I just received 100% on my first assignment, and I feel like I can do anything now. I highly recommend John Bertinetti regardless of what your level of understanding is. He will meet you where you are, and guide you to where you need to be. My greatest satisfaction was finding out what I was capable of, with the right guidance. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Let John help you discover what you are already capable of achieving!”

“If you are looking for a statistics tutor (for probability), do not hesitate to contact John! I don’t have a strong background in statistics and was worried about doing well in my course but I am so happy that I found John! We covered challenging topics such as permutations/combinations, random variables, Bayes’ Theorem, and covariance. He is amazing and so knowledgable… the quality of tutoring provided by John is simply exceptional. I had the privilege of working with John every week during my course and he was always extremely prepared and helped fill in the holes I had in my knowledge. John is super encouraging and really tries to make sure that you understand everything. With his help, I was able to master the topics covered in my class. In addition, his approach to tackling problems helped me ace my class… I truly could not have done that without his help! “
